Are You on Scammers List?

July 21st 2009

home-for-saleJohn received a phone call that some one from Middle East is interested in buying a property worth million dollars. The meeting time and date was set to discuss the details. The potential client was supposed to fly from Middle East to Canada through United States.

John received phone call on the day of meeting that potential client is stuck at the airport in US. Immigration and Custom officers gave him hard time and he missed the flight. He will have to stay in hotel and purchase a new ticket. Adding to his misery further, his credit cards were not working either, so he was without any cash and no other way to pay for hotel and ticket. He asked John to lend him the required money and he will pay it when he come to Canada.

John got blinded for a moment by the greed of hefty commission from the million dollars sale and thought of giving him money. Luckily, he was able to spot few alarming signs and refused to pay the cash. He was able to save himself from getting a couple of thousands dollars hole in his pocket.

If you get contacted by any such person, the best option would be to contact your professional body or law enforcing authorities. John was lucky enough not to get scammed but you may not be as lucky.
