Hasibullah Sadiqi who was on trial facing allegations he shot his sister, Khatera, and her fiancé, Feroz Mangal, in a planned and deliberate fashion as part of an “honour killing” rooted in the couple’s engagement,i has been found guilty on two counts of first degree murder.
The jury deliberating a verdict delivered their decision which carries an automatic sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
Hasibullah Sadiqi’s sister Khatera refused to have her father involved in the engagement and moved in with her fiancée Mangal’s family before marriage. Khatera was found dead of a gunshot to the head on Sept. 19, 2006. Two weeks later Mangal died in hospital from gunshot wounds.
