The West Hunt Club Road bridge over the Rideau River had been reopened late Tuesday afternoon after a deadly, head-on collission of car and a minivan.
The collision occurred when a car traveling in the eastbound lanes lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a minivan in the westbound left-turn lane.
The driver of the car died at the scene. Police did not release his age or where he was from. Police does not yet know how he lost control of the car. He was alone in the car. The driver of the minivan suffered a broken leg and chest injuries and was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition. Three children in the minivan were taken to CHEO. According to paramedics a four-year-old girl was treated for cuts and bruises, and was in serious but stable condition. The infant girl and a two-year-old boy suffered no injuries, but were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Police is ivestigating the accident.
